Finally... an update!
I think it's one week since my last blog... seems like ages though. Anyway.... just a lil update on my life for the week.
Monday:
Managed to finish my last and final assignment by 5.25pm. I was late, but nevertheless it's done and completed with much relief. But i aint sure whether i'll do well for this paper, i highly doubt so, I aim to pass only... getting credit for this paper will be a bonus for me. Anyway.... after that went home and just nuahed the whole night. Watched tv and just laze in bed. Shiok!
Tuesday:
Went to chadstone to buy a pair of black flats, i need it for work. It's my first day at work as a F&B attendant at the melbourne town hall. It was scary coz i've never done such things before. It was a banquet kinda dinner, so it's a really formal one. But coz i was new, i didnt had to do much, just act as a filling in if there is any work to be done. I thought i had to carry 3 hotplates on my arms, but thankfully the duty manager said if i aint comfortable and confident abt carrying the plates, I'll just carry two. At the beginning, i had to carry trays of drinks (beer, wine, champange, soft drinks and orange juice) around for the pre-event cocktail drinks. That was tiring... my arms ached so badly. Anyway.... it was almost dinner time for the guests, so i had to wait with this other girl (who was new too) to see if any help was needed. But in the end... we were transferred to downstairs to help out for another event, a cocktail function for the Australian Film Commission. It was a better job for me, coz it was just pouring drinks and serving drinks. Though tiring... i did learn quite a bit of stuff. The whole experience was not bad.
Wednesday and Thursday:
I didnt do much on wednesday... just stayed at kevin's place and nuah the whole day. Rested my aching arms and feet. As for thursday... well... i played MAHJONG!!! haha!! yeah!!! had permission from kevin to let me play mahjong, so I headed to samuel and keith's place for the session. It was pretty good... i had good tiles...but sometimes just not that lucky too. But the night was fun. Headed to Maccas after that for some supper than headed home.
Friday:
I thought i would love this day... but i hated the night. Well... i headed to kevin's place so we could head down to crown to watch a movie. We watched Collatoral Damage. It wasn't that bad a show.... tom cruise was not bad... but i thought jamie foxx was brilliant. Funny man playing a serious role. Not bad. anyway... i worked on this day too.... in the evening at fed square. It was a pretty demoralising night for me. First time working at this place too... it's call ZINC @ Fed Sq. Cool place. My duty was to carry trays of drinks and be ready to serve when guests arrived. I carried a tray of sparkling water and orange juice, i think it had about 12 glasses on the tray, all filled to the top. It was bloody heavy..... reallly heavy. I couldn't take it... and so i decided to change tray.. i carried the champange tray. but because of the previous trray... my arms were wobbling, so the champagne tray wobbled too when i carried it. And knowing how fragile and light these champange glasses are... the unimaginable and most embarressing thing happened to me. Guests were walkin in... and there and then... i broke all the champagne glasses infront of everyone. WAH!!! i felt so bad..... quickly went to change... and apologise to the supervisor profusely... but this bloody supervisor... well... i think he's a malaysian chinese... wanting to act like a bloody ang mo... and i think he's gay.... was damm bloody bitchy. oh well... he didn't say much... but his face said it all. So... my duty changed to toppin up drinks... and i went round topping drinks up for people. The other staff were quite nice and consoled me... but it was seriously the most embarressing moment. Those ladies behind the countered looked so fierce too when each time i asked for more beer bottles. Dunno... they looked super unfriendly... as if i owed them a favour. Oh well... fortunately the night ended early for me.... but it wasn't worth earning that $40 for 2hrs 45mins. more so.. coz the next day i had to work for the races. sigh... felt such a loser... oh ya... and the guests thought i was from china... and spoke mandarin to me. argh!! ignorance!
Saturday:
I really didnt feel like working... coz of the friday night's incident. But for the money.... i had too. Dragged my soul and body to flemington race course. Kevin worked too... (oh ya.. he introduced me to this job) we were pretty early... kevin headed to his tent... i went to mine. We worked at the VIP tents, it was corporate tents meant for guests and clients of the respective companies. To name a few big names at the VIP tents: Myers, Loreal, Emirates, Longines, Cadbury, Seven network, CitiGroup, etc. Ye... there were lots more... Kevin worked for a law firm... i worked in a Scottish construction company. Initially i was suppose to work for the knight frank's tent, but again... i was a fill-in causal... i was transferred to the scottish tent. I thought i would have more fun at the knight frank's tent coz it was smaller and the other staff were friendly. I thought i was headed to a diastrous day but ... the scottish tent wasn't that bad. The manager of the tent was actually quite nice and very accomodating. Cool dude... i think he shld be in his late twenties. The other staff in the tent were quite nice too.. this girl called carlie and another guy called Will. It was a pretty relaxing work place... coz my job was just to top up drinks and clear empty plates and glasses. Occassionally i would stay behind the bar and take drink orders. The crowd of coz were well dressed... the ladies were gorgeous and men were well-groomed. The food for the guests looked good... and fortunately... as a staff.. we had the priviledge to eat those food too.... manager kept heading to the kitchen and eat the food and kept telling us to take it if we want too. Hhaha... shiok! I made friends with the security guard for the tent too..... and the host of the tent. This host is definately a gay guy.... hard to tell u why i think so... but i think my gaydar skills are not that bad. Anyway.... the whole day was a pretty fun experience.. get to watch all the races...., eat good food... drink as and when i want too. So eventhough the work was tiring and strenous... i had fun. There was a deejay spinning in the tent too... and the music he chose were pretty good shit too... motown groove tunes. So... a mixture of good management, friendly workmates, good food and good music... working for this tent aint that bad afterall. I hope i will work at the same tent again.... manager will request to the recruitment supervisor for me to work back at the same tent.
I will be working for all the races... 2nd, 4th and 6th. So... it'll be good money... hopefully the same good fun too.
I think... to make a work place more enjoyable to work must have a good supervisor or manager, friendly and co-operative collegues and a nice environment. I hated the malaysian supervisor i had...and will continue to bitch about him... if i ever work back at that place.
Sunday:
Woke up late as usual.... plus i lost one hour coz of daylight savings... i woke up even later. I didnt want to stay at home coz the weather was simply too good to resist. Plus kevin's housemates were watching dvd ... and using the internet.. so i was seriously bored stiff. Headed to st. kilda... and there were so many people there. most girls were in bikinis walking along the ackland street...it was just so nice to be at the beach. It felt good to be out and just relax. I needed the exercise too... at least i walked and not sit at home and rot to death till the night. Bought one cake for kevin's household, and one fruit tart for myself... :)
Now.. i'm in caufield com lab... ready to head home to cook dinner and watch australian idol. Haley shld go next... she doesn't deserve to be in top 4 actually... she's just not star material.. to stiff... and maybe continue to watch singapore idol... mum sent over the tape again. :)
signing off.
